On Monday 18 November people from across the southern region attended the SOS Hospital Rally in the Dunedin Town Hall. Hosted by MC Kanoa Lloyd (The Project), the event gave attendees the opportunity to hear from experts including Registered Nurse Linda Smillie, Dr Sheila Barnett, Dr Mike Hunter and Hon Pete Hodgson. Special guests included Sir Ian Taylor, Southland Federated Farmers President Jason Herrick and former All Black Paul Miller, and entertainment was provided by Robert Scott and Norma the Organ. During the meeting, a SOS Hospital Statement was agreed.
Cuts to clinical services are totally unacceptable.
The option to retrofit the existing Ward Block as a future inpatient facility should be abandoned immediately.
The biggest cost to the project is now delay. A major redesign at this stage is a false economy.
